Family of late gospel icon Yaw Sarpong visits Tourism Ministry

The family of the late gospel musician Yaw Sarpong, led by MUSIGA President, Bessa Simons, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts to formally inform the Sector Minister, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, of his passing and announce funeral arrangements.

Dzifa Gomashie expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Yaw Sarpong as a celebrated gospel icon whose music provided spiritual inspiration to many and whose contributions to Ghana’s creative arts industry will be remembered for generations.

She conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Government, the Ministry, and the entire creative fraternity to the bereaved family.

The meeting was attended by officials of the Ministry, including the Director for Culture and Creative Arts and the Director of Finance and Administration.

Yaw Sarpong passed away on January 20, 2026, in Kumasi at the age of 66.

The singer was widely revered for his immense contribution to Ghana’s gospel music landscape, particularly through the Asomafo Band, whose spiritually uplifting songs have shaped Christian worship across generations.
