Maccasio wins Overall Artiste of the Year at Ghana Northern Music Awards 2025
Northern-based afropop and rap sensation Sherif Abdul Majeed, popularly known as Maccasio, has been crowned overall Artiste of the Year at the maiden edition of the Ghana Northern Music Awards (GNMA 2025), held on Saturday in Tamale.
Maccasio emerged ahead of eight other nominees in the five Northern Region claim the top honour, reaffirming his dominance and influence within Northern Ghana’s music scene.
The just-ended Ghana Northern Music Awards 2025 celebrated outstanding talents who have made significant contributions to the growth and recognition of music across Northern Ghana.
The maiden edition brought together artistes, industry players, and music lovers for a night filled with excellence, creativity, and cultural pride.
The ceremony honoured deserving individuals and groups across various genres, including rap, hip-hop, gospel, reggae, dancehall, and afrobeat, whose works resonated strongly with audiences over the year.
Beyond individual awards, the event highlighted the importance of fan support, technical excellence, and creative collaboration in building a vibrant and sustainable music industry in the Northern Region.
Several other awards were presented on the night, including New Artiste of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year, and Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year.
Special Recognition Awards were also presented to celebrate excellence beyond the Northern Region. Shatta Wale received the Special Recognition Award (Ghana), while Nigerian superstar Davido was honored with the Special Recognition Award (Africa),underscoring the growing relevance and ambition of the awards scheme.
The Ghana Northern Music Awards has positioned itself as a credible platform for celebrating and promoting Northern Ghana’s musical talent, with organisers and stakeholders expressing optimism that the scheme will continue to elevate the region’s music onto national and international stages.
