Interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, Prince Yaw Owusu, has expressed unwavering confidence in his ability to guide the club forward despite suffering defeat in his first match in charge.

The former Ghana international stepped into the role following the departure of Karim Zito and was immediately handed one of the toughest fixtures on the domestic calendar , a clash against fierce rivals Hearts of Oak.

The highly anticipated encounter took place at the iconic Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday. Kotoko battled fiercely but were ultimately undone by a first-half header from Baba Adamu, which proved decisive as the Phobians secured a narrow 1-0 victory. The result was a disappointing one for the Porcupine Warriors, who are eager to remain competitive in the Ghana Premier League title race.

Speaking to the media after the match, Yaw Owusu admitted that losing to their archrivals presents a significant setback to Kotoko’s ambitions. “Losing to Hearts of Oak makes it difficult for us to win the league,” he acknowledged candidly. The defeat not only dented their title hopes but also extended the team’s winless run to three matches, increasing pressure on the technical bench.

However, when questioned about whether he believes he is the right man to steer Kotoko through this challenging period, Yaw Owusu responded with firm conviction. “Yes, there’s no two ways about it,” he stated confidently, signaling his determination to turn things around.

Kotoko will now shift focus to their upcoming Matchday 23 fixture against Young Apostles at the Wenchi Sports Stadium. The clash presents an opportunity for redemption as the Kumasi-based side aim to bounce back and revive their pursuit of league success.
